There are many aspects of parenting that are not for the faint of heart. But one of the toughest can definitely be potty training.
Potty training at our house wasn’t terrible, but it was no picnic either. Our daughter was a daycare kid and I was naively counting on the peer pressure at daycare to make this a quick process.
Now that she’s a teenager I’m immensely grateful that she can resist peer pressure, but back in those potty training days, I thought peer pressure at daycare was the answer to nailing the potty training. Nothing could be further from the truth with our kid who does everything on her own timing.
Little miss independent was almost 3 y.o., not full potty trained yet, and suddenly declared, “I’m a big girl. I wear panties. No diapers!”
…Right as we’re leaving for the airport to go to Disneyland with my family.
She refused to wear her diaper in the airport, on the plane or at any other point on that trip. She also refused to use airport and plane bathrooms. Seriously???
To her credit, she did not have an accident in the airport or on the plane.
The moment we got in our hotel room she tricep pressed her little self up on the way-too-high toilet with the biggest, proudest smile that said, “See, I told you I’m a big girl!”
We want all kids to have that kind of confidence when it comes to their bodily functions.
We’re thrilled to announce that beginning June 1, Emily Olson, PT, will begin offering pediatric pelvic health services at our Madison Park clinic!
