You won’t believe how I ended my summer
One Friday in mid September, 5 of us from the team here ended work a bit early and headed out on Lake WA for a little wake surfing adventure.
This was definitely an event for all. We had one veteran working on 360s, two who had dabbled with wake surfing in high school and two of us who had never ever.
Thankfully, we were in great hands with our expert driver, instructor and all around super nice (and patient!) guy, Justin.
Amongst our team, there are plenty of physical challenges (even the PTs don’t get out of here unscathed!) …we were dealing with all sorts of fun things:
- ACL reconstruction
- Ankle sprains
- Long term neurologic condition
- Acute injuries
- General aches
But, that didn’t stop the fun. We all do the work needed to allow us to do these fun activities when the opportunity arises.
These women brought unwavering support, encouragement and some great music.
That support and encouragement for each of us to reach our goals for the day was like nothing I’d ever seen. We might have been more excited for each other than we were for ourselves!
It’s the same excitement we have when we watch our clients reach their goals in PT.
And now, I have a confession to make…
I didn’t even want to get in the water, much less try wake surfing.
This was way out of my comfort zone. But, once I was out there, I had no choice.
The encouragement (ahem, peer pressure) was infectious and I couldn’t let everyone down.
So I had to ask myself, “Why do I work so hard to stay healthy if it’s not to try a new sport at 47 years-old?”
I’m proud to say I got up on the board on my second try and had a good long ride.
Now, I didn’t do a 360 like Lauren, let go of the rope like EB and Kayla or try the more advanced board like Emily.
But, I think there may be some wake surfing in the future for the Rogers Family.
Because we can.
Our wake surfing outing embodied our team’s “WHY.”
Our team heads to the clinic day-after-day to help all of you regain and optimize your physical freedom so you can adventure for a lifetime.
